Bioethics and Ethics in the Human and Animal Research (6 Credit Units, 90 Credit Hours)
Syllabus: Ethics and knowledge. Foundations of ethics and morals. Health and ethics. Ethics, scientific development and human rights. Bioethics, philosophy, principles. Research on human beings. Health research standards. Research Ethics Committee. Resolutions 01/88 and 196/96. National and international guidelines for research on humans and animals.
 
Design of Scientific Research in Dentistry - emphasis on biostatistics (8 Credit Units, 120 Credit Hours)
Syllabus: Scientific evidence should guide clinical decisions in dentistry. The course focuses on the various levels of evidence and how studies can be designed and performed to reach the most reliable levels of dental science. In this field, statistical design is paramount for the improvement of scientific knowledge.
 
Scientific Research Methodology (8 Credit Units, 120 Credit Hours)
Syllabus: Design of the research. Concepts and applicability of hypotheses. Types of Search. Definition of concepts: causality and chance; association and correlation; risk factors and risk factors. Variable analysis and sample selection. Development of methodologies. Analysis of variables.
 
Higher Education Methodology (6 Credit Units, 90 Credit Hours)
Syllabus: Dental education in Brazil: current situation and trends; articulation between the teaching plan, unit plan and political-pedagogical project; integration between basic and applied sciences; teaching resources and teaching-learning techniques; teacher / student relationship; evaluation: general aspects and implementation tools. 

Teaching Practice – I & II (8 Credit Units, 120 Credit Hours)
Syllabus: Structure and dynamics of teaching; the teacher and his attitudes in teaching; the teaching practice: how to plan the classes; principles, methods and techniques of teaching; evaluation criteria; visual audio methods in teaching practice; fixation and learning; tests in education; discussions and practical classes.
 
Teaching Internship (4 Credit Units, 60 Credit Hours)
Syllabus: Practical activities aimed at the undergraduate course, to include the master's students in the exercise of teaching activities, including the support to the professor in practical and theoretical classes, in the elaboration of didactic material and teaching plans.

2. Elective Disciplines
 
Carcinogenesis (6 Credit Units, 90 Credit Hours)
Syllabus: Concept and biological characteristics of neoplastic cells. Etiologic agents of cancer: carcinogenesis and neoplastic promotion. Epidemiology. Factors that influence the appearance of cancer. Classification of tumors. Clinical and anatomopathological characteristics. Metastases: concept, routes of dissemination and determinants.
 
Dental Materials: Mechanical Testing and Clinical Research (6 Credit Units, 90 Credit Hours)
Syllabus: To approach and deepen the knowledge about the fundamentals and techniques for conducting mechanical tests and clinical research involving dental materials and devices; interpretation of the results obtained in the two types of studies; development of projects involving mechanical tests and clinical studies.

Teaching and Research Seminars (4 Credit Units, 60 Credit Hours)
Syllabus: Improvement of expository classes, active methodologies in dental education, elaboration of evaluation instruments. Discussion on research methods, critical evaluation of scientific articles and dissertation.
 
Advanced Topics in Biostatistics and Research Design (4 Credit Units, 60 Credit Hours)
Syllabus: A large number of scientific researches involve the analysis of several variables. Specific statistical methods promote the control of these variables, adjusting for confounding factors and the errors inherent to the use of the univariate analyzes.
