The dissertations defended by students of the Program, in digital format, are available on the PPGO website. The visibility is also highlighted by the sharing of scientific articles through social networks and by presentations of research papers at scientific events.
Social Integration
The main research projects developed by the Fundraising Program involve populations and Amazonian themes. This regional insertion, important for the development of the knowledge about the Amazon, configures the originality of the knowledge produced by the Program. This knowledge has already produced several scientific productions, among the main ones are: studies on the epidemiological profile of oral health in indigenous communities and riverside populations and their impact on quality of life; studies analyzing the effects of chemicals with toxic potential, such as mercury and alcohol, widely used in artisanal mining in the region; Amazonian herbs, such as andiroba oil, in the treatment of adverse effects in the treatment of cancer, as well as studies on the incidence of oral cancer in the Salgado region, known as the Atlantic Amazon. Several dissertations already defended in the Program worked with Amazonian objects. In some field researches, the students' involvement with the objects studied was also a way of approaching the Program with different subjects and realities, who came to know the PPGO and to contribute in the researches developed by the students and professors. At the same time, the students and professors approach the specific realities of the region. In this sense, in the medium and long term, the Program should become a reference in the studies of the region, as one of its objectives predicts. In addition, some projects developed in the Program have contributed to the understanding and more direct intervention in the face of regional problems. In the scope of scientific dissemination, which is one of the strategies that the area can contribute to the social insertion and dialogue of the Programs with the local realities, it is possible to highlight other projects also conceived, developed and evaluated by professors and students of the PPGO. In the field of extension, four major projects, in addition to others reported in Projects, are developed by tenured professors and program collaborators, along with graduate and undergraduate students, attending to the social insertion of dentistry and its role in face of social demands: 1.Diagnosis of patients with oropharyngeal lesions in the Laboratory of Pathological Anatomy and Immunohistochemistry (LAPI) of the Faculty of Dentistry of UFPA, coordinated by Professor Sérgio de Melo Alves Junior (tenured professor); 2. Dental Nucleus of the Voluntary Association of the Patient with Lip-Palate Fissure (AFLAB / PA), non-governmental organization in which master’s degree students and undergraduate students perform care in the specialty, under the guidance of Professor David Normando, president of AFLAB-Pará and professor of PPGO-UFPA. 3. Orthodontic-rehabilitation care of patients with severe facial deformities, performed at the clinical premises of the Faculty of Dentistry and coordinated by Professor Gustavo Brandão (Invited Professor). 4. Project Sorriso Ribeirinho, developed in partnership with the Brazilian Association of Dentistry - Pará (ABO-PA), this project serves children from the riverside communities in the vicinity of Belém. It is important to note that all activities of social insertion are closely related to intellectual production of the program, as can be found in bibliographic production and completion work, in addition to chapters of books and manuals cited in intellectual production. The interface with basic education is also highlighted.
